Losing fuel prime
November 3rd, 2007
My neighbor lost fuel pressure on his 2001 24V and couldn't get it running. I scanned it for codes, no DTC's found. Checked fuel pressure,it was intermittent and went from 8lbs to 0. I replaced the fuel filter and stock lift pump with a GDP 392 lift pump kit. Had 18-20 PSI with new pump but still wouldn't start. Couldn't get the air bled out of the system. I unhooked the grid heaters and got it to start right up on ether, but not stay running. At my wits end I added fuel to the tank even though the gauge showed over a 1/4 tank. The engine started and ran. Once it sits for a while it seems to lose prime. Is there a check valve or a fuel tank problem I'm missing causing the fuel to drain back? I have used this same kit before with no problem.
Thanks
Rick.
